Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the habits of bagworms which may be harmful to the aesthetic of turf, adding that they may "cause much anguish to the grounds manager." Details the process in which bags are formed from "bits of dead foliage, twigs, and silk" and attached to twigs by caterpillars. Explains the development of the caterpillars into moths, stating that after further procreation there may be "severe infestations...[where] the entire plant is defoliated and bags can be seen hanging from existing twigs and branches." Recommends using a spray of acephate or carbaryl between late May and mid-July to control the insect, noting that there are biological insecticides also available. |
