| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses various factors which may help contribute to lip build-up and which maintenance methods may help minimize it. Indicates that "the most obvious cause for lip build-up is the movement of infield mix from the infield into the grass perimeter," suggesting that improper grooming techniques, wind and water erosion, and game play are other factors that contribute to lip build-up. Recommends clearing turf of any infield mix by blowing, power washing, and brooming, and addresses beneficial grooming techniques. Provides detailed suggestions on the the composition of an infield mix and warns against allowing moisture levels to become too wet or too dry. Mentions the effects of wind and rain on the turf and presents suggestions to guard against them. |
