| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the relationship of height to health with regard to turf, suggesting that "the height of cut, the mowing frequency, and the portion of cut" cannot be specified at the same time. Recommends that "recreational athletic turf must be mowed twice per week or once every 3 to 4 days" in order to maintain "an acceptable degree of turf density and playability." Advises to "always mow when the grass is dry. Yea right. Sounds good from where I sit. Realistically, always mowing when the grass is dry can't be done with any degree of consistency." Mentions the possibility of alternating mowing among wet playing areas. Highlights mower blade sharpness, differentiating between blade sharpening grinders and handheld grinders. Concludes with a list of "tricks of the trade" for maintaining turf appearance and playability. |
