| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles a sports field in New Jersey maintained by Don Savard, a Certified Sports Field Manager. Focuses on the field's significant amount of low areas which would collect water when it rained and discusses the attempts made by Savard to restore the field to a playable state. Details what rendered the restoration efforts to fail, explaining that the groundskeeper had created a "bowl [which] retained water longer than the surrounding soil." Indicates that the problem was solved when the field was renovated, describing the methods used in the renovation. Concludes that "the lesson learned was that layers of dissimilar textured soils do not drain consistently," suggesting that a physical soil test should be obtained when purchasing new soil. |
