Abstract/Contents:Addresses the politics involved in managing sports fields, suggesting that managers are "customer service specialists first and field managers second." Explains that "to fully understand the politics of the organization...[individuals] must become well acquainted with all of the stakeholders and their agendas." Provides a detailed description of the players that are involved and their influence over the maintenance practices, including the athletes, coaches, athletic directors, owners of the facility, parents, committees, public, press, vendors, and nature. Details the possible difficulty in ensuring that everyone is pleased with the quality and playability of the turf when taking resource, time, and weather challenges into consideration.
