| Abstract/Contents: | Presents a question regarding whether rolling turf would rid a field of bumps, and requests to know how much weight should be applied, which direction the turf should be rolled, and if the soil should be aerated afterwards. Responds by recommending to attempt "to smooth the surface-as opposed to address large 'bird baths' that will hinder surface drainage." Provides an example of the Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, New Jersey and their methods for smoothing the surface. Explains that rolling may be harmful to fine textured soil, and adds that rolling may be more effective if there is more turf cover present. Suggests "using no more than a 1.0-ton roller...[to] not engage the vibratory function [and that] soil conditions should be relatively dry." |
