Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted to "evaluate available golf course water quality data and assess the impacts of golf courses on water quality as determined by toxicologic and ecologic reference points." Details the methods and materials used in the study, stating that "results of surface water and ground water studies conducted on golf courses throughout the U.S. [United States] and Canada were solicited through a variety of resources." Reports that "of these 29 new studies, 27 passed our quality-control review criteria and were included with the original 17 studies, yielding a total of 44 studies that include 80 golf courses in the database." States that "with the exception of phosphorus in surface water, the quality of water from golf courses generally meets or surpasses U.S. EPA [United States Environmental Protection Agency] water quality standards." Concludes that "there is a continued need for additional high-quality, reliable data on the impacts of golf courses on water quality."
