| Abstract/Contents: | "An evaluation of fungicides to control sping [spring] leaf spot/melting-out (Drechslera poae) was conducted at the Landscape Management Research Center, University Park, PA, on Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis 'S-21) maintained under home lawn/golf course fairway management conditions. Urea (46-0-0) was applied at 0.9 and 1.2 lb actual N per 1000 sq ft on 3 and 10 Apr, respectively. Individual plots, 3 ft x 20 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Fungicides were applied with a CO2-powered boom sprayer, using T-jet 8004 nozzles, at 30 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft. Applications were made on 15 and 29 Apr, and 11 and 28 May, except as noted in the table. Treatments were visually evaluated on 11 and 27 May and 8 Jun. Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance and Duncan's Multiple Range test. Disease pressure was intense in early May, and severity ratings on 11 May reflect the performance of the test chemicals in a severe disease environment. There was no active disease, and recovery and regrowth had begun by the time the 8 Jun rating was carried out. The severity values obtained on this date revealed which treatment plots were so badly damaged by the disease as to be slow in recouperation." |
