Abstract/Contents:"An evaluation of fungicides for control of Rhizoctonia blight (Rhizoctonia solani) was carried out at the Landscape Management Research Center, University Park, PA, on a mixed stand of Apache, Bonanza, Cimarron, and Olympic tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) maintained under home lawn management conditions. The test area was fertilized on 22 May with 1.0 lb nitrogen (Scotts 32-3-10) per 1000 sq ft. and on 8 Jun with 1.0 lb nitrogen (urea 46-0-0) per 1000 sq ft. Individual plots, 3 ft x 15 ft, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatments were applied with a CO2-powered boom sprayer, using T-jet 8004 nozzles, at 30 psi, in water equivalent to 2 gal per 1000 sq ft. Applications were made on 9 and 23 Jun, 7 and 22 Jul, and 5 Aug, except as noted in the table. Rhizoctonia blight severity was visually evaluated on 23 Jul. Data obtained were subjected to analysis of variance and Duncan's Multiple Range test. Temperatures were very low during the course of this experiment, never reaching 90F, and exceeding 85C on only two days. Statistical separation of the data presented is not good because of the low level of disease present, however, there was little rep-to-rep variation in severity within treatments, so that the data provide a fairly accurate assessment of the relative performance of the test chemicals in control of Rhizoctonia blight on tall fescue."
