| Abstract/Contents: | "Four nitrogen treatments were applied to Lolium perenne turf growing on a sand over gravel construction. Two were applied as ammonium sulphate in either 4 or 6 dressings during one year. Two were applied as IBDU in 2 dressings, with the second dressing being either in early September of late October. All treatments received 225 kg ha-1 a-1 N. Over two growing seasons measurements were made of growth rates by taking yield measurements. At the end of the second growing season artificial football-type wear was applied to the turf and the effects on ground cover, surface hardness and traction measured. The benefits derived from relatively greater surface traction and winter turf growth from IBDU treatments were reflected in a better tolerance of wear than in the ammonium sulphate treatments." |
