| Abstract/Contents: | "A test kit based on a monoclonal antibody technique was evaluated for disease diagnosis and as an aid to management of dollar spot disease. In field and laboratory experiments, the kit was specific to Sclerotinia homoeocarpa, with no reaction being recorded against a range of other turfgrass pathogens and Festuca spp. leaf tissue. Symptoms of dollar spot on cultivars of Festuca rubra ssp. litoralis and F. rubra ssp. rubra diagnosed by visual symptoms and laboratory cultural techniques were confirmed by positive test kit readings. Cultivars of F. rubra ssp. commutata, F. ovina and F. longifolia, not recorded as hosts of dollar spot in the UK (but expressing symptoms possibly due to dollar spot), gave negative results by cultural and test kit methods. In a field trial, application of fungicide sprays made on the basis of desease risk determined by the test kit controlled dollar spot on two cultivars of F. rubra ssp. litoralis." |
