Abstract/Contents:Discusses the diagnosis of turfgrass injury and loss during winter. Discusses a variety of contributing factors in the susceptibility of turfgrass to cold weather injury. Explains the symptoms and causes of various cold weather turfgrass injuries. Included in these inuries are chill injury, desiccation injury, ice injury, crown hydration injury, low temperature injury, and traffic injury. Describes techniques used to prevent these injuries. States that "each year in late winter, prior to normal spring green-up, diagnostic measures should be taken by turfgrass managers...proper diagnosis of cold weather injury to warm-season turfgrasses can alleviate the extent of the damages."
