Abstract/Contents:"Umbrella plant (Cyperus alternifolius L.) is a perennial herbaseous plant belongs to Cyperaceae which grows naturally in tropical and sub-tropical area. The plant has been grown as ornamental plant for flower arrangement since old age at local warmth place of the southern part than Kanto district. Recently, this plant is noticed as an improving plant of eutrophic water quarity. The reason is based on that dry matter production and nutrients uptake from water of this plant grown in eutrophic water area were the highest, and that the produced biomass is able to use for paper pulpu resources. In this report, we introduced the experimental results done on various fields of taxonomy, morphology, ecology and physiology of umbrella plant till now and explained concretely the methods of propagation and cultivation of this plant. Moreover, effective use method of the plant biomass was introduced."
