Abstract/Contents:Describes a study conducted by researchers at Oklahoma State University "to measure the loss of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) caused by natural rainfall from a common bermudagrass fairway managed with typical fertilization and irrigation practices." Explains that "pesticide loss from turf depends on factors such as pesticide chemical properties, soil type, turf species, thatch, application timing, and weather conditions." Reports that "the 2007 research indicated that in a season of near record rainfall, bermudagrass fairways would lose about 1.3% of the N and 7.7% of the P applied as fertilizer." Includes an interview with the researcher of the study, Greg Bell. Provides suggestions for fertilizer and pesticide applications, including the use of grass buffer strips, and to water in the application immediately to prevent runoff.
