Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the potential problem faced by municipalities and school boards of replacing artificial athletic fields, suggesting that high replacement and disposal costs associated with synthetic fields may discourage fully replacing turf that is "falling apart." Reports that although flattened synthetic turf may pose a safety hazard to athletes, funding entire field replacements is rarely planned in advance. Briefly mentions that surface hardness tests may provide a standard for field quality which "can be incorporated into the field replacement decision making process." |
