| Abstract/Contents: | Focuses on the potential importance of properly draining turf, stating that "good drainage is a fundamental requirement of any sports turf playing surface." Lists multiple problems which may the result from poor drainage, including "increased surface softness as a result of saturated soil and additional thatch levels." Provides suggestions to improve drainage, suggesting the benefit of aeration. Discusses the possibility to use pipe drainage and gravel banding, adding that "gravel banding could be considered as a secondary system of surface drains where some underlying pipe drains have already been installed." Indicates that "complete reconstruction should be considered where other methods have failed to provide improvement or when poor design is contributing significantly to the drainage problem." Gives other recommendations to improve surface drainage, including "the Drill and Fill approach." |
