| Abstract/Contents: | Profiles the Fulham Football Club in London, England and its decision "to install an undersoil heating system on it Craven Cottage pitch." Details the composition on the soccer pitch, adding that its "construction comprised [of] a coarse sand based profile, the sides and base of which were enclosed within an impermeable membrane." Indicates that in 2001, Sports Turf Research Institute assisted in the renovation with the purpose "to introduce a completely new pipe drainage system as well as a fibre [fiber] reinforced upper rootzone." Adds that "this refurbishment helped restore a more conventional pitch profile that performed satisfactorily for the remainder of the decade." Details the process of renovation and provides photographs to illustrate the process. Briefly provides information on the management practices once the heating system was installed, including that the groundsman had "to cover the pitch with germination sheeting to accelerate the initial grass establishment." |
