Abstract/Contents:"There is considerable interest in heat tolerant bentgrasses. Although all indications show that these new cultivars are superior to Penncross in terms of summer performance, there is still much to be learned concerning their mechanisms of stress tolerance as well as their management requirements. Therefore, the objective of this research is to determine, non-destructively (utilizing the UGA underground root observation laboratory), the seasonal root and shoot growth of Penncross, L-93, and Crenshaw under 4, 8, and 12 pounds of nitrogen a year. This study was initiated in April 1997 and will run for the next several months and is being partially supported by a grant from the Georgia Turfgrass Foundation."
