Abstract/Contents:Profiles the ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) technique for detecting pesticide residues in plants and other media. Provides a brief history of the technique, and mentions that "ELISA works in much the same way a vaccine works by taking advantage of the mammalian system's immune response." Highlights the use of the ELISA technique in relation to pesticide use, detailing the procedure through which it detects pesticides. Concludes that "superintendents may someday be able to conduct a quick and affordable ELISA test to see if sufficient fungicide remains to delay another dollar spot application."
