| Abstract/Contents: | Addresses the effect of potassium applications on snow mold of annual bluegrass. Indicates that "applications of potassium are thought to increase tolerance to environmental stress, but potassium applications by themselves do not improve tolerance to snow mold pathogens." Suggests that fertilizers should be applied in late summer to late fall with "nitrogen to potassium ratios of 2:1" to potentially increase efficacy. Presents a growth chamber experiment designed to evaluate the effect of potassium on snow mold, reporting that "with increasing levels of tissue potassium, disease severity levels also increased." Adds that "potassium applications limit the plant's natural ability to defend itself." Briefly discusses usage restrictions of PCNB (Quintozene) and alternative fungicides which may be used. |
