Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the possibility of implementing a fungicide program which does not employ chlorothalonil. Suggests that chlorothalonil may be banned or restricted by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and recommends setting a goal "to gather enough information about the disease affecting turfgrasses...so if chemicals are removed or rendered ineffective...[there is] information to develop new control strategies." Indicates the development of a dollar spot forecasting model, explaining that it is "correlating environmental conditions to dollar spot development in the field." Includes information regarding the biology of the dollar spot pathosystem, adding that there is a "plan to examine plant tissue, soil, and thatch in order to figure out where the fungus overwinters." Overviews the epidemiology of anthracnose, indicating that "the disease is very difficult to control because the pathogen is an extremely good saprophyte." Mentions that continuous research is conducted in order to "develop control strategies that minimize pesticide application." |
