Abstract/Contents:"Breeding objectives of the USDA-ARS Tifton, Georgia turf improvement program include winterhardiness, improved dwarfs, pest resistance, lower maintenance, increased genetic diversity and stress resistance. Improved cultivars are being developed in both bermudagrass (Cynodon sp.) and centipedegrass, Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro) Hack. New vegetatively propagated triploid (2n=3x=27) hybrids and high quality seeded (2n=4x=36) cultivars of bermudagrass are being developed and evaluated for use on golf courses, athletic fields, and lawns and for commercial landscaping. Seeded centipedegrass cultivars are being developed for lawns and commercial landscaping."
