Abstract/Contents:Presents a cultivar study conducted in October 1979 at the Ohio State University Research Facility in Columbus, Ohio to determine the establishment rate and quality of various turfgrasses in tree shade. Details the materials and methods used, with all plots receiving two pounds of nitrogen per square foot a year, with no irrigation or pesticides used during the study. Reports that establishment rates varied, with perennial ryegrasses showing 60-70% cover 18 days after seeding, while the bluegrasses were "slow to establish." Notes that by the next spring, the "ryegrasses, fine fescues, and tall fescue had formed an almost complete cover." Concludes that Sabre had the best overall maintained performance throughout.
