Abstract/Contents:"Cultivars were evaluated as part of the 2004 National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) perennial ryegrass test near Amherst, MA. The trial consisted of 120 commercially available and experimental cultivars seeded to 3 ft x 6 ft plots in Oct 2004. The experimental design was a randomized complete block with three replications. Plots were mowed at 1.25-in. height of cut. All plots received 2.5 lb nitrogen (N)/1,000 sq ft (0.75 lb N in late May and early Sep, 1.0 lb N in late Nov), no irrigation or fungicides were applied. Plots were rated for dollar spot (Sclerotinia homoeocarpa) 3 Aug 09. Identity of the disease was confirmed by the University of Massachusetts Turfgrass Disease Diagnosis Laboratory. Dollar spot was evaluated using a visual rating of incidence recorded on a 1 to 9 scale (9=no disease). Data were analyzed using ANOVA and means comparisons performed using Fishers Protected LSD (P=0.05). Significant differences among cultivars were detected. None of the perennial ryegrass entries evaluated were disease free. Entries are ordered in the table from most to least resistant to dollar spot disease. Dollar spot ratings in perennial ryegrass ranged from 5.00 ('Palace') to 8.67 ('Silver Dollar'). Cultivars with dollar spot ratings of 7.67 and higher exhibited disease ratings statistically equal to no disease (9 on a 1 to 9 scale). Commercially available entries that exhibited only trace amounts of disease (ratings 8 and higher) included 'Affinity', 'Amazing Grace', 'ASP 6001', 'Attribute', 'Dart', 'Halo', 'Keystone', 'Pentium', 'Silver Dollar', and 'Top Gun II'. Commercially available entries that had disease ratings that were unacceptable (<6.00) included 'ASP6005', 'Calypso 3', 'Delaware', 'Galatti', 'Grand Slam 2', 'Linn', 'Overdrive', 'Palace', 'Paragon GLR', 'RNS' and 'Zoom'."
