Abstract/Contents:Brief review of lawn bowling including historical and modern popularity, green dimensions, nature of the turf and play of the game. Bowling greens are pictured in 2 schematics and one photograph. Emphasizes importance of turf to lawn bowling and states possibly no other game played on a green is so closely tied to the surface of the green. The turf is maintained from 1/8 inch (hybrid bermudagrass) to 3/16 or 1/4 inch (creeping bentgrass) and the thatch produced by the grasses is ideally kept to an absolute minimum to achieve a hard, fast playing surface.
