| Abstract/Contents: | States that "the role of the Plant Pathogen Identifiers and National Mycologists within the Plant Pathogen Quarantine (PPQ) program of the APHIS-USDA is to safeguard US [United States] agricultural and natural resources from non-endemic pathogens that may enter, establish, and have deleterious effects on these resources." Provides information on the program, and emphasizes a potential need to develop a way to properly identify pathogens. Explains that "one approach we are employing to eventually reduce the number of genus-level identification is to isolate and sequence the pathogens encountered and deposit the collected material into the US National Fungus Collection (BPI)." |
