Abstract/Contents:Presents an ongoing research study being conducted at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst to "[find] best management practices for reduced golfer exposure to turfgrass pesticides." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "we have evaluated exposure in over 100 rounds of golf following the application of eight pesticides utilizing dosimetry...and biomonitoring." Reports that "exposure estimates based on a 1 hr [hour] re-entry interval following full-course and full-rate applications are substantially below USEPA HQ [United States Environmental Protection Agency Headquarters] and Acceptable Daily Intake (ADI) values for all pesticides studied." Concludes that "these encouraging results show that operational practice such as re-entry intervals, reduced application area, and use of less toxic pesticides do attenuate exposure and hazard."
