| Abstract/Contents: | Discusses research conducted to study potential areas of irrigation reduction on turf, highlighting the evapotranspiration rate and use of the water balance equation. Notes, "the question I wanted to answer...was how water-use rates of two zoysiagrass cultivars differing in leaf angle orientation...would vary across different management and environmental conditions that are also known to affect ET [evapotranspiration]." Reports that the more erect of the two chosen cultivars had a higher ET rate. States that "for superintendents looking to reduce water use, selection of a prostrate-growing cultivar coupled with a relatively low N [nitrogen] fertilization has the potential to substantially reduce water use (about 30 percent in the present study)." |
