Abstract/Contents:NCR-10 Regional Project that evaluated monthly (May to October) and seasonal quality of 16 alternative turfgrass species. 3 bluegrasses, a Colonial Bentgrass, 4 hard, tall, and Sheep Fescues, 2 Buffalograsses (plugs), Poa alpina, and Red Top at three heights of 2" and 4" cut and uncut. Best seasonal averages: at 2",4" and uncut Sheep Fescue, Reton Red Top; worst Bulbous Bluegrass, Sodar Streamback Wheatgrass and Ruff Crested Wheatgrass. Of note: Exeter Colonial Bentgrass has much better color at 2" and 4" than at uncut (UC) as did Rubens Canada Bentgrass (in Sept. Rubens was dramatically better at 2" and 4" than UC). Buffalograss did not survive the winter of 1988.
