Abstract/Contents:Briefly presents research plans "to identify the mechanisms associated with improved cold tolerance for annual bluegrass and perennial ryegrass and the rate at which these grasses acclimate to cold." States that "we will specifically examine changes in membrane lipid composition, accumulation of compatible solutes, and sensitivity of the photosynthetic apparatus to photoinhibition in response to acclimation temperatures." Concludes that "based on results from this research project, we plant to further investigate the reliability and efficiency of specific physiological traits as selection criteria for predicting low-temperature tolerance in cool-season turfgrasses susceptible to winter injury."
