Abstract/Contents: | Quality, cover, color, and Dollar spot ratings of 38 Kentucky bluegrass, 24 perennial ryegrass, 9 fine fescue, and 9 tall fescue cultivars. Quality was rated on 5/5, 8/22, and 11/20/89. Cover was rated on 8/22 and 11/20/89. Color was rated on 11/20/89, and dollar spot was rated on 8/8/89. Also evaluated quality (8/8 and 11/20/89) and dollar spot (7/17 and 8/8/89) of 8 bentgrass cultivars. All cultivars were seeded 5/5/89. Kentucky bluegrass: All cultivars had > 90% coverage on both rating dates. On 8/22, quality ratings showed America, Aspen, Nassau best and Nugget and Wabash worst. On 11/20, quality ratings showed Bronco best and America, Banff, Barblue, and Baron worst. 11/20, color ratings showed Aspen, Barzan, Birka, Nassau, Parade, Ram, Rugby, and Touchdown best and Argyle worst. Dollar spot ratings on 8/8 showed Argyle and Aspen none and Victa and Wabash extremely heavy. Perennial Ryegrass: On 8/22 all cultivars had above 80% cover except Palmer (65%). On 8/22, quality ratings showed Allstar best and Palmer worst [while on 11/20 all above 80% with Fiesta best (100%)] while on 11/20, Fiesta II, and Gator were best with Palmer, Linn, and D114 worst. Color ratings on 11/20 ranged from poor to moderate. Dollar spot on 8/8 showed D114, Linn, Palmer + Celpiel seed treated, Patriot none and Fiesta Gator, Palmer + apron seed treated, repell, and SR 4000 moderately heavy. Fine Fescue: Cover on 8/22 and 11/20 was > 90% except on Jamestown, Pennlawn, and Ruby quality on 8/22 showed Dawson and Spartan best and Pennlawn worst. On 11/20, Spartan was best and Ruby and Pennlawn were worst. Color ratings on 11/20 showed Spartan best and Pennlawn worst. No sufficient dollar spot. Tall Fescue: Cover on 8/22 and 11/20 was > 97% in all cases. Quality was good and occurred for all cultivars except Galway on 8/22. For all cultivars, on 11/20 color was brown. No significant Dollar spot occurred. Bentgrass: Quality ratings on 8/8 showed Prominent best and Penncross worst. On 111/20, Prominent was best and Putter was worst. Dollar spot was very evident but no significant differences in disease levels were fair among the 8 cultivars. National had the lowest level of incidence. |
