Abstract/Contents:1989 update of study at Yahara Hills Golf Course established to examine the effects of variety, age of sod when transplanted, soil texture of sod, and subsequent management practices on post transplant disease development in bluegrass. Study comparisons were: Same age sod from inorganic vs organic soil sources, using materials composed primarily of Adelphi cultivar; older (4.5 yrs) vs younger (1.5 yr) sod using Eclipse and Georgetown varieties; more intensive vs moderate management practices following sodding; relative susceptability of Eclipse and Georgetown to Necrotic Ring Spot (NRS). Turf quality as measured by color and density ratings were superior in plots maintained under higher fertility and irrigation. No statistically significant differences existed among cultivars or soil type from which the sod was produced. Noted that Adelphi plots were inferior to other cultivars in lower maintenance site as occurred in 1988. Clay based sod had the lowest thatch level, although had the highest level in 1988. When transplanted, 4-year-old turf was more thatchy than youger turf.
