Abstract/Contents: | Discusses the growth and popularity of the internet, focusing on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook. Provides information on the number of soybean farmers that use social media and the internet, citing that "computer use...ranged from 65% [percent] for those who farmed fewer than 500 acres, to 90% [percent] for those farming 2,000 acres or more." Describes one blogger's usage of technology integration tools to extend content across multiple websites. Suggests that the popularity of print materials is still high among growers but the progression of the internet among young farmers will continue to grow, stating that "even if an older farmer isn't into texting or getting market updates over a smart phone, his kids probably are." Explains that use of social media "builds that connection for the time when people want more information. They know off the top of their heads who to call." Includes definitions of several social media terms. |
