Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted by the Institute for Integrative Bird Behavior Studies to "[examine] home ranges and movements of Eastern bluebird fledglings" on golf courses in southeastern Virginia. Details the methods and study sites used, stating that nests were monitored in man-made boxes on three separate golf courses and four reference sites, and that along with GPS (global positioning system) technology, "radio-transmitters [were attached] to 156 eastern bluebird nestlings while they were still in the nest." Reports that "fledglings on reference sites averaged larger home ranges, but not significantly so" and that more forested sites also saw an increase in fledgling home range. Concludes that "we found little evidence that bluebird fledgling home range differs between golf course and reference habitat, indicating that bluebirds use the golf course habitat in the same way as reference habitats."
