Abstract/Contents:"BAS 514 (proposed common name quinclorac) is presently registered in Asia for weed control in rice. It shows good potential for selective control of large crabgrass (Digitaria sanguinalis (L.) Scop) and southern crabgrass (D. adscendens (Retz.) Koel.) in turf. Many articles have shown that environmental influences can significantly affect postemergence grass herbicide performance. This research was designed to look at the influence of temperature and soil moisture on the control of southern crabgrass by BAS 514. The research was conducted in growth chambers on 3- to 5-true leaf crabgrass plants. All treatments received an 18 hour photoperiod with full light of 690 uM/m2/s. Temperatures tested were 15/10oC,25/20oC, and 35/30oC. Soil moisture was maintained at 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% of evapo-transpiration demand. Based on this work, temperature and soil moisture significantly influenced the response of southern crabgrass to BAS 514."
