Abstract/Contents: | Summarizes advantages and disadvantages of artificial and natural turf athletic fields and discusses the seed market for athletic fields. States although artificial turf has advantages in multiple use, heavy wear and rain situations, athletic field managers are returning to natural grass due to ease of repair, cleanliness, athlete safety, and lower field temperatures. One manager suggests both turf types are suitable for most conditions if properly constructed, installed, and maintained. Also discusses the seed market for athletic fields at the professional, college, high school, grade school, and municipal level. Notes overseeding, often several times per year, is a current athletic field trend. |
