Abstract/Contents:"Three, spring 1989 and one fall 1988 preemergence, and two 1989 postemergence herbicide evaluations are summarized below. All herbicides were applied in 50 gpa at 30 psi, and test sites treated with preemergence randomized complete block with four replications. Percent of plot area covered by smooth crabgrass [ Digitaria ischaemum (Schreb.) Muhl.] was visually determined in all tests using a 0 to 100% scale on 1 Sept 1989. Excellent crabgrass control was considered to be >90%. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and significantly different means were separated by Bayes LSD at P = 0.05. Fall 1988 Preemergence herbicides were applied 3 Nov 1988, and sequential treatments were applied 18 Apr 1989. Oxadiazon 2G or 5OW applied on 3 Nov at 2.0 or 3.0 lb/A provided 26 to 55% crabgrass control (data not sh1rn). Plots treated with oxadiazon 5OW at 2.0 lb/A on 3 Now and retreated 18 Apr with oxadiazon 2G at 0.5 or 1.0 lb/A exhibited 26 to 40% crabgrass control. Pendimethalin 65DG (3.0 lb/A), prodiamine 60 DG (1.0 lb/A), MON 15151 1EC (1.0 lb/A), and MON 15179 0.5G (0.75 lb/A) applied 3 Nov 1988 provided 94 to 99% crabgrass control when plots were rated 1 Sept 1989. Spring 1989 Preemergence herbicides were applied between 5 and 7 Apr 1989. In Study I, AC2200 (0.08 or 0.16 lb/A) alone or tank mixed with AC1900 (0.08 lb/A); AC183,545 (1.0, 2.0 or 4.0 lb/A); or imazethapyr (0.08 lb/A) did not provide a significant reduction in crabgrass (data not shown). AC183,545 (8.0 lb/A) gave 74% control; whereas, MON 15151 1EC (0.5 lb/A) and pendimethalin 60DG (3.0 lb/A) provided 100 and 97% control, respectively. In Study II, only MON 15151 1EC (0.38 lb/A) provided less than excellent (83%) crabgrass control. All other dithiopyr formulations (i.e. MON 15151 1EC and MON 15104 1EC at 0.38, 0.50 and 0.75 lb/A; MON 15175 0.25G and MON 15189 0.22G at 0.22G at 0.25, 0.38 and 0.50 lb/A; and MON 15190 0.30G at 0.50 or 0.75 lb/A); prodiamine 65DG (0.65 lb/A); and oxadiazon 50WP (3.0 lb/A) provided >93% crabgrass control. None of the aforementioned treatments significantly reduced prostrate spurge [ Euphorbia supina Raf.] populations. In Study III (Table 1), all treatments except oxadiazon 2G (3.0 or 4.0 lb/A) and LESCO 012510 0.286G provided a satisfactory (>89%) level of crabgrass control. Only pendimethalin (3.0 lb/A) had reduced spurge significantly. Postemergence In the early postemergence study (Table 2), MON 15104 (0.38 lb/A) and sequential quinclorac (0.75 + 0.75 or 1.0 + 1.0 lb/A) provided >95% season-long crabgrass control. Good, season-long crabgrass control (79 to 85%) was provided by all other treatments, except quinclorac applied at 0.75 lb/A (65% control). Fenoxaprop 1EC (0.18 lb/A) and HOE 360-14H (0.06, 0.09, 0.125, or 0.18 lb/A), applied 7 July 1989 to 4-leaf to 2-tiller stage smooth crabgrass, provided 90 to 98% control (data not shown). Fenoxaprop 50DG (tank-mixed with 1.0 pt/A of surfactant) provided 84% crabgrass control."
