Abstract/Contents:"Fungicide treatments were evaluated on a practice fairway at the Elk's Country Club, West Lafayette, IN. The turf area received conventional golf course fairway management, except no herbicides were used for control of P. annua or other grasses. Consequently, the predominate grass species in the plot area was P. annua. Treatments were applied to a 3.3 X 6.6 ft area of 3.3 X 13.2 ft plots arranged 22 psi and at a rate of 2 gal/1000 sq. ft. treatments with a 14 day spray interval were applied on 11 and 25 Jul; with a 21 day spray interval on 11 Jul and 1 Aug; and with a 28 day spray interval on 11 Jul. One treatment, Rubigan 1AS at 3.75 fl oz, received a single application on 11 Jul. Disease ratings were made on 28 July and 4 August by estimating the 1-(% death in treated area divided by % death in corresponding untreated portion of each plot. A percent control value was calculated for each plot by the formula 1-(% death in treated area divided by % death in corresponding untreated area). Temperatures, humidity and rainfall were near normal for the test period; however, early August was hot and humid with little rainfall. Death of P. annua was evident on 25 Jul and progressed steadily to 5 Aug. From 5 Aug to 8 Aug severe plant death occurred rapidly and by 8 Aug nearly all P. annua in the entire plot area was dead and affected areas were being recolonized by weedy grass species. Acervuli of C. graminicola were readily found on P. annua leaves during this test, but no pathogenicity studies were conducted. All fungicide treatments delayed plant death to a greater or lesser extent, but none prevented severe plant death by 8 Aug. No phytotoxicity was observed."
