Abstract/Contents:"Fungicides were applied to a one year old stand of perennial ryegrass, when mycelium of R. solani was observed on foliage, with a CO2 pressurized (38 psi) sprayer in 2.5 gal. water per 1000 ft2. Treatments were applied on three spray intervals on the dates given in the data table. Rain (0.15 in.) fell within 7 hrs of the initial application (22 Jun), but no rain occurred within 24 hrs of all other spray dates. Soil was a Chillum silt loam with a pH of 6.4 and 2.6% O.M. Plots were 5 by 5 ft and arranged in a randomized complete block with four replications. Percent of plot area blighted was visually determined on a 0 to 100% scale. Overall quality was assessed on a 0 to 10 scale where 0 = brown or dead turf, and 10 = optimum greenness and density. Treatments with ratings exceeding 5% plot area blighted would be considered unacceptable control for golf course fairway turf. Weather conditions fluctuated frequently from cool-wet to warm-dry weather, and disease pressure was light to moderate in Jul, and moderately severe in Aug. SAN 619 and SAN 832 were the only treatments providing commercially acceptable brown patch control on all rating dates. Conversely, Ro-40-6637, at the rates evaluated, provided an unsatisfactory level of control on nearly all rating dates. Flutolanil, Tersan 1991, Fore, SDS 66518 and Daconil 2787 provided good brown patch control in Jul; however, between 10 and 18 Aug the residual effectiveness of these fungicides had dissipated to unacceptable levels. By 29 Aug, the level of brown patch injury in Tersan 1991 and Fore-treated turf exceeding the injury in untreated turf, while most other fungicide-treated plots (except SAN 619 and SAN 832) had injury levels similar to untreated turf. Because of the excellent residual effectiveness of SAN 619 and SAN 832, overall quality of these treated plots was superior to all others on 29 Aug; whereas, Tersan 1991 and Fore-treated turf exhibited quality inferior to untreated turf."
