Abstract/Contents: | Describes which turfgrass species and cultivars seed marketers believe will be the most improved and thus, the most important in which markets in the 1990s. Discusses bermudagrasses, turf-type tall fescues, perennial ryegrasses, fine fescues and Kentucky bluegrasses. States most important considerations for developing turfgrasses in the next decade include improved seed production, rich color, disease and pest resistance, low-maintenance, low chemical input, drought resistance, and wider adaptation to various climates. New technology such as genetic engineering will be the tool by which breeding and cultivar improvements in turfgrasses are made. |
