Abstract/Contents:Presents a report discussing sand surveys conducted in 1994 "[to] evaluate the sand composition of Southern California golf course greens to determine if they are close to or deviate greatly from USGA [United states Golf Association] specifications and determine if there are any correlations between sand composition and the other chemical parameters evaluated during normal soil testing." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "a full chemical analysis was carried out on [eighteen collected soil samples] in [an] attempt to find correlations between soil physical characteristics and chemical composition." Reports that "further research will be needed to determine the value for PS [particle size] which results in a difficult to manage green" and whether PS can be manipulated with aeration. Concludes that "it is necessary to stress that these results are preliminary and should not be used to make management decisions."
