Abstract/Contents:"Roots and shoots of `Yorktown II' perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.) were regenerated from callus tissue on half-strength Murashige and Skoog (MS) or half-strength Gamborg B-5 media without addition of growth regulators. Optimum shoot formation occurred using a B-5 basal medium with 0.1 mg/liter 6-benzylamino purine (BA) while 0.1-0.5 mg/liter 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) enhanced root development. Callus maintained with 10 mg/liter 2,4-D had less potential for regeneration than callus maintained with 5 mg/liter."
