Abstract/Contents:Summarizes research presented at the 2010 University of Connecticut Field Day, conducted to "[assess] the playability and quality of athletic turf under different organic management regimes, as compared to more traditional maintenance practices using synthetic product." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "traffic simulation was conducted using a Cady Traffic Simulator, a modified walk-behind core cultivation unit. Traffic was applied three times a week for 13 weeks beginning in mid-August." Reports that "there was no consistent effects on rotational traction or surface hardness as a result of management regimes or overseeding." Concludes that "the organic and conventional regimes performed similarly, with the main differences being the effectiveness of the herbicides, and the benefits seen from overseeding during traffic."
