| Abstract/Contents: | The response was studied on a sand rootzone and on the local topsoil. Sowing was in August 1981, and during 1982 the following treatments were applied: 0, 25, 100, 225, 400 or 625 kg ha-1 N. Ground cover was measured before, during and after artificial wear treatments applied during the 1982-1983 season. Before wear, ground cover increased rapidly with increasing N. Once wear treatments started, however, plots with high N levels deteriorated faster than those receiving intermediate levels. Optimum N levels were calculated at each sampling date. The average optimum rate for the best wear tolerance in the first season of use was 289 kg ha-1 N annually. |
