Abstract/Contents:From a sampling of responses from members of the American Sod Producers Association (APSA), who were specially polled for this article, turfgrass seed breeders, wholesalers and brokers get ideas on improving or expanding their share of expanding market. Acreage of turf farms has increased in recent years, but total number of turf farms has decreased slightly. "The significance of this to turfgrass seed marketers is that while the amount of seed being purchased is going up, the number of customers is holding steady or even declining slightly." A farm profile indicated the kinds of seeds used and number of sources. The firm that has "consistent seed quality" will apparently win according to poll. "For the cultivated sod producer, seed is the first ingredient to the long-term success of his business. He must be assured of receiving a product that offers consistent quality, in a specific variety that is properly priced and delivered in a timely manner."
