Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted by the University of Massachusetts-Amherst "to determine how fast the dollar spot population shifts in response to repeated applications of fungicides." Details the materials and methods used in the study, stating that "percent diseased area per plot was subjected to analysis of variance to determine differences between treatments." Adds that "laboratory petri dish assays were run in the lab to evaluate in vitro fungicide sensitivity of dollar spot isolates for propiconazole and thiophanate-methyl." Reports that "resistant isolates to thiophanate-methyl appeared and increased in the population to almost 100% [percent] in frequency on the plots treated with two applications of thiophanate-methyl by the end of the growing season (2006)." Concludes that "a very low frequency of thiophanate-methyl resistant isolates caused by spontaneous mutation might be present in the turfgrass field at the Joseph Troll Turf Research Center." Includes tables depicting trial information such as fungicide plot maps and a list of commercial fungicides used in the study.
