Abstract/Contents: Overviews a study conducted by the University of Massachusetts-Amherst "to determine actual levels of golfer exposure to 'reduced risk' pesticides following application to turfgrass." States that "to understand these [potentially toxicological] factors, we have analyzed pesticide residues in the air and on turfgrass (dislodgeable foliar residues, DFR) in over 40 pesticide applications." Mentions that the study also assesses best management practices as a means of reducing golfer exposure to pesticides. Includes two mathematical models through which empirical data was calculated and explains the Hazard Quotient (HQ), a measure of toxicity. Reports that, "to date, HQs determined for chloropyrifos, carbaryl, cyfluthrin, 2,4-D, dicamba, MCPP and chlorothalonil and imidacloprid have been 10- to 300- fold below 1.0, indicating safe exposure levels using the EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] Hazard Quotient criteria."
