| Abstract/Contents: | "The effect of five reinforcement materials was studied during a second year of simulated football-type wear after renovation of the perennial ryegrass sward. On a sandy loam topsoil the use of a needle-punched geotextile reduced the rate of loss of ground cover but on the remaining treatments ground cover was lost rapidly. Use of a sand rootzone led to better retention of grass cover but there were no significant differences in cover attributable to the reinforcement treatments following the onset of wear. Penetrometer resistance data indicated no significant differences in soil compaction amongst the reinforcement treatments. The incidence of surface ponding was considerably higher than in the first year after construction, particularly on the topsoil area and the implications for the management of reinforced areas are discussed." |
