| Abstract/Contents: | "The effectiveness of three moisture retaining amendment materials on grass establishment on VHAF reinforcement was investigated. Notts dressing and Alcosorb both improved the rate of grass establishment particularly on newly laid VHAF material. On renovated VHAF, estabishment was relatively rapid for all amendment types. When wear commenced the amendment materials had no adverse affect on wear tolerance or traction but Alcosorb and Notts dressing did give a slightly softer surface in some weather conditions. Recommendations are given on the use of amendment materials for promoting grass establishment. Under conditions of wear the newly laid VHAF gave a better playing surface than the renovated VHAF material whilst the unreinforced soil degenerated into a mud bath in wet conditions." |
