Abstract/Contents:Presents a study conducted at the University of Massachusetts to "(1) compare the wear tolerance of perennial ryegrass, tall fescue, and Kentucky bluegrass cultivars representing the most wear tolerant entries of each species from recently terminated NTEP [National Turfgrass Evaluation Program] test, and (2) identify plant characteristics and associated mechanisms important in these species and cultivars." States that "treatment plots were planted October 5, 2006. The wear study will be evaluated over the next 3 growing seasons (until 2012)." Reports on preliminary findings, noting that "all Kentucky bluegrass and perennial ryegrass entries have provide [provided] acceptable turf quality...[while] none of the tall fescue entries have provided acceptable turf quality."
